The Luce-Mackinac District Health Department and the Alger-Schoolcraft District Health Department, initially established in the mid-1930's, both became Medicare certified in 1968. The Luce-Mackinac-Alger-Schoolcraft District Health Department was formed in 1972. LMAS is a District Health Department, committed to fulfilling the responsibilities of a District Health Department.
The Luce Mackinac Alger Schoolcraft District Health Department is organized into two service-delivery divisions: Personal & Family Health, and Environmental Health. These divisions deliver population-based public health promotion programs as well as home health care services in the four county jurisdictions. The divisions are supported by the administrative group, structured to provide Information Systems, Human Resources, Financial and Management support services.
