Family Planning
Women have traditionally been the caretakers in the family, but to be able to care for others, women need to make sure they take care of themselves. LMAS District Health Department offers these suggestions:
- Eat sensibly
- Engage in physical activity regularly
- If you smoke, quit smoking
- Use alcohol in moderation; however if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, avoid alcohol altogether
- Engage in stress-reduction activities
- Keep your annual medical appointments, including those for birth control
- Make sure you take Folic Acid daily
To assist you in taking care of yourself, we offer the following services:
- Annual physical exams
- Evaluation for an appropriate birth control method
- Evaluation for sexually transmitted diseases
- Distribution of chosen birth control methods
- Provision of WIC, if you are pregnant or less than 6 months post-partum
The LMAS District Health Department offers a wide range of effective and safe birth control methods including:
- Birth control pill
- Birth control shot
- Birth control patch
- IUD
- Condoms
- Birth control vaginal ring
- Referrals for Tubal Ligation
- Several other commonly used methods

LMAS District Health Department offers services on a sliding fee scale based on your income level and accepts Medicaid.
Remember, to be a good caregiver, you need to take care of yourself first.
